Isola Design District – Open Studios 28 September – 10 October
RivaViva is relaunching its commitment to design that prioritises people’s health and the planet’s wellbeing. The historic brand is strengthening its partnership with the master woodcraftsmen of Artisan. Wood treated and finished with natural oils, waxes and varnishes that preserve the “naturalness” of the pieces, total control over the production process, designs by the “Sarajevo school” and leading European designers. Furniture that embodies the pursuit of beauty, respect for nature and a passion for the “handmade”.
From 28 September to 10 October 2020, the City of Milan is hosting Milano Re-Design City, an event dedicated to the culture of design and innovation, with a particular focus on the redesign of urban spaces, sustainability and the circular economy.
This is an area in which RivaViva, the historic Brianza-based brand that has been crafting solid wood furniture since the 1920s with a passion for “handcrafted” pieces, has long been committed: every piece on display in the showroom in the heart of the Isola district is crafted with love and refined artisanal care, embodying a synthesis of nature, beauty and innovation.
The wood used for every piece of furniture comes from sustainably managed forests; the manufacturing and finishing processes are carried out with the utmost respect for the environment, whilst the fabrics and upholstery are 100% natural.
This commitment to design that prioritises craftsmanship, beauty and, at the same time, the wellbeing of people and the planet, has prompted RivaViva to strengthen its collaboration with the master woodworkers at Artisan, a company specialising in the production of high-quality furniture (it has recently designed the interiors for many Starbucks shops worldwide, including those in Milan).
This collaboration has given rise to new pieces designed by leading figures from the “Sarajevo School”, as well as by designers from across Europe. The designs are the result of materials treated solely with superheated steam (so as not to compromise the structure and ecological qualities of the wood), naturally dried, and finished using natural oils, soaps, waxes and varnishes (free from solvents, petroleum, formaldehyde and other toxic agents), pushing the boundaries of the craft of woodcarving.
This is not merely a choice in favour of beauty and the environment, but also of the health of those who live in the home and use its furnishings. In short, a design that is «healthy, beautiful and sustainable».
Milan Design City: the aim is to relaunch the Italian Design System, which is once again opening its doors to the public without forgetting the period we have just been through: all events will comply with health and safety regulations.
