Milan Design Week 2018
Off-site events by RivaViva
Design, health and sustainability take centre stage in Milan for Design Week: Riva Arredamenti is launching the first “RivaViva Eco Awards”, a prize to be awarded to the best eco-friendly furniture.
At the RivaViva Space in the Isola district, alongside the exclusively handcrafted wooden furniture from the historic Brianza-based brand, there will be furniture created by designers from the “Sarajevo School” – represented by the companies Artisan and Gazzda, with whom internationally renowned designers such as Salih Teskeredzic and Mustafa Cohadizic collaborate – who draw on the traditional local craft of wood carving, a skill and artistry that RivaViva exclusively represents throughout Italy.
Every piece on display in the showroom, crafted with love and refined artisanal care, is not merely a piece of furniture, but an example of modern decorative art. The task of voting for the piece that best embodies the synthesis of nature, beauty and innovation will fall to journalists (who will award the Exclusive Eco Award 2018) and the public (who will vote for the Testing Eco Award 2018), who will be provided with ballot papers on which to indicate the number of their chosen piece of furniture.
The event’s guiding principle is a “zero-impact” lifestyle that does not compromise on beauty. It is not merely a choice in favour of the environment, but also of the health of those who live in the home and use its furnishings. Design as the result of an effective approach to materials (which do not contain harmful substances, such as solvents, petroleum, formaldehyde and other toxic agents) and intelligent design. In short, a design that is «healthy, beautiful and sustainable».
The event is open to everyone on Thursday 19 April from 10.00 to 20.00, when journalists and the public can visit the exhibition space and cast their vote in a competition on the theme of “eco-friendly furniture”. The final awards ceremony will take place during the evening event on 10 May.
