This is the guiding principle stated by Riva, a company whose history begins back in 1919 with a craft workshop founded by Attilio Riva and today lives on through two brands, Boiserie Riva and RivaViva. The latter launched in 1990 by Cristina Riva, the third generation at work who has imprinted a strong ecological culture on her own furniture line. In no. 277 of Ambiente Cucina Architect Cristina Riva explained the “recipe” for keeping such an ambitious promise.
Let’s start with the story. How did your ecological culture come about equals the roots that nurtured it?
Certainly the focus on wood and its finishes is part of the history of the family business, which was founded in the 1920s and specialized in paneling. Knowledge of the material was then transferred to RivaViva, the natural and eco-sustainable furniture line launched in the early 1990s, through which I was able to express my interest in ecology. An attention and sensibility gained through my architectural studies that led me to travel extensively in Northern European countries, where environmental issues were already well established.
